Hey gang -
This is an intentionally brief "cheat sheet" to help people who are considering getting involved with online social networks and may be apt to struggle with maintaining their social networks (adding new content, participating, etc). Per request from a couple of you - I'm posting it here for the group's input and feedback. Feel free to add. This is probably pretty timely, considering this network is (ironically) not very active. Again - this list is simply for the novice to help them… Continue
An older post from Seth Godin that I just got around to reading. Pretty interesting. Thoughts?
When newspapers are gone, what will you miss?
Years and years after some pundits began predicting the end of newspapers, the newspapers themselves are finally realizing that it's over. Huge debt, high costs, declining subscription rates, plummeting ad base--will the las… Continue
dudes. why are we doing all this in blog posts? It seems like the forum is what we want.
Just my opinion. I want to be able to look at the forum and see all the content. We all already have blogs.

Hey folks, you may already know this, but I've been working -- with Marcel's generous help -- a consolidation of Nevada news media RSS feeds. They currently reside here:
http://twitter.com/nevadanews
The obvious problem is that following that volume of Tweets is incredibly obnoxious. The work-around is putting them all into a single RSS feed. But then the problem is that in order to click on any one item, it takes you to the Twitter page first, then you have to click it again to go to the sour… Continue
A cause of great consternation to the folks who use popular social sites like Twitter is the inevitable monetization that must come, at some point -- the problem is, a site like Twitter works best without the clutter of ads or the cost of texting, or software fees. So you have to compromise the quality of the service to keep the service viable.
It is a tough situation.
As a regular Twitter user, both personally and in a marketing capacity, I may be one of… Continue
What have you guys done for your clients/selves to venture into the New Media world?
As the resident new media guy here at NCOT, I have done the following:
So, what makes somebody an "expert" in new/social media? What are the qualifications? I know that we have all been to conferences and workshops, read articles, etc on the topic and thought to ourselves - what makes this jerk an expert? He doesn't seem to know what he's talking about... I know WAY more than him! (You're probably thinking that as you read this blog).
So, what says you? I consider this group to be the core (in our area) that seems to understand the what, the why and the how of new… Continue
Everyone's hero, Gary Vaynerchuck, posted a killer video today on his blog (garyvaynerchuck.com) about monetizing your blog/social network/whatever. If you've got eyeballs, you can monetize it.
I actually do love Gary. He's a stud. Check out the video:

Hey crusaders -
I need your help explaining, in plain English, the copyright/licensing rules around photo-sharing websites like Flickr. This is a non-profit organization with chapters all over the nation, and they need a way to share photos with each other (for website, brochures, etc). They are REALLy worried about copyright rules. Should they be concerned? If not, how can I explain this to them in plain English? Continue
But if we're going to crusade for New Media, let's define what it is. I have two pretty different ideas about what I consider New Media, but they can sometimes be confused with one another, especially when someone thinks they're making a point.
Here are my possible definitions:
New Forms of media - Using online video and audio to get a message out. (probably this one, but the distinction should be made)
The transformation of The Media - The ability for regular people to break
Hey everybody - if you've found this social network, you've probably been referred here by someone you know through a social network. "Behold - the power of new media - all is pleasant in the world!"
New media has a distinct power when used strategically and properly. There is a dedicated group out there who is committed to helping spread the legitimacy of new media strategies and tactics. These are the New Media Crusaders (I was going to use "New Media Mavericks" but some a-hole is apparently… Continue
